Army Overview: Mechanised Fire Power

The idea behind this army is to provide maneuverable, yet overwhelming fire power against whatever opponent you might face. If you play against a horde army, this army has enough multi-shot weaponry to shred anything that tries to come near. The two Tactical squads and their transports are mainly in place for monster or tank hunting, as at 1500pts you should not have to deal with too many heavy vehicles. That being said, there is a chance and this army will struggle against it, but with the typhoon missile launchers and multiple lascannons, you should still stand a chance. Against a flyer spam, this list will again have some problems, but you should not have to deal with more air power than you already have without unbound silliness, as the list does sport some fierce air superiority in the form of a total of 4 flyers.

The idea of this list is to hit them from a distance, using Land Speeders as a countermeasure to throw up against anything that gets too close or exposed clumps of infantry. You will not win a mid-ranged fire fight with almost any army, even Tyranids will out-gun you if they get within 18”, but the idea is for them not to get close enough. The low presence on the board at first will likely draw your opponent in, but once reserves start zooming onto the table, your opponent will be in a lot of trouble. Because of this, you want to be deploying conservatively. Keep everything out of line of sight, with the exception of the Tactical squads that you want to set up in commanding positions near the back of the board. You do not want them to be in a forward position otherwise your opponent can start pressing their mid range guns into range early on. On turn one you do, however, want to bring your Razorbacks and Land Speeders out of hiding to help thin down the enemy forces that will be advancing on you. The first few turns are crucial for this army and you need to prioritise targets effectively as you run the risk of being overwhelmed very easily. Remember that this army can kick out an absolutely insane amount of mobile fire power that can take down any targets, but it also has a total of 21 models and no super heavy.

Armies that this list will not be great against are any that incorporate a large number of fortifications with high anti-air capabilities. Against an army with a Firestorm Redoubt, you are going to need to drop that fortification as soon as possible or it runs the risk of taking half of your army apart. This is especially true of your flyers come in small amounts. You want all of them to turn up in turn 2 ideally, so use the Escort Craft special rule of the Stormtalons! Each Stormtalon can escort each Stormraven, meaning that you only need to make 2 rolls of a 3+ to get everything in. If everything turns up on turn 2, there are very few armies that could stand against the weight of fire that this list can push out. There will be lists that can counter it, but I believe that this list can fight most opponents with a good amount of success.
